Pairumani Model Farm *** Z wizyta we wzorcowym gospodarstwie

Farma zajmuje sie takze badaniami naukowymi i propagowaniem ekologicznych metod hodowli zwierzat i uprawy roslin.

Niby nic niezwyklego, a jednak! Poniewaz infrastruktura farmy miesci sie w posiadlosci najbogatszego w swoim czasie czlowieka na swiecie – miejsce to posiada sielski urok znany z obrazow malarzy romantycznych.

***

‘Pairumani Model Farm’ was established in 1970 in the old manor of  famous Simon Patiño – ‘Tin Baron’, about whom I wrote more due to visit in his city mansion ‘Portales’ —> click.

Pairumani is located about 21 km from Cochabamba at an altitude of 2.600 meters above sea level and covers an area of about 500 hectares, of which only 200 h are for cultivation. The remaining area is covered by forest, some of it converted into an eco-park.

The farm produces both organic plants, as well as dairy products. The tastiest tomatoes that we recently bought on the market in Cochabamba are from here – grown with a clean water.
The farm also provides research and promotes organic methods of modern farming.

One can ask – what’s so extraordinary? Well, since the farm’s infrastructure is housed on the property of the richest man in the world of his times – the place has this rustic charm known from romantic paintings. In simple but beautifully preserved buildings there are apartments for both professors and laborers as well as lecture halls, stables, etc.

In a nearby eco – park you can catch a breath of fresh air with the scent of eucalyptus (the hills of Cochabamba are covered with eucaliptus trees), go camping (we haven’t seen there any mosquitos:), barbecue with family and friends, go for a walk in the mountains or participate in one of the programs teaching about natural environment and the ways to preserve it (recycling, reforestation, etc.).

It might be surprising that I didn’t  mention anything about the magnificent ‘Villa Albina’ – the main residence of Patiño family. Unfortunately we couldn’t see it, because we went ther during a carnival and as you know, on weekends and holidays all cultural institutions in Bolivia are closed.

We noted, however, visiting hours that are to be as follows:
Mon. – Fri. – 15.00 to 15.45
Sat. 9.00 to 11.00 am

It’s possible to get there by bus (from city centre to Quilacollo and from there to Pairumani – about 1 hour) or by taxi (much more expensive but faster).

We will definitely go back to see the hacienda of Simon Patiño next time when in Cochabamba!
