Pamietacie moje ubolewania nad tym, jak zmienila sie Cochabamba? Jezeli nie, zajrzyjcie —> tu. Otoz okazuje sie, ze nie wszytkie miasta brzydna z postepem, czego dobrym przykladem jest Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Oczywiecie, pelno jest w miescie starej architektury, ktora niszczeje w oczach i grozi zawaleniem, jak i nowoczesnych architektonicznych potworkow, ktore raczej nie przetrwaja proby czasu, bo juz na ich nowych fasadach wychodzi grzyb, ale jedno jest pewne – Santa Cruz wyglada o niebo lepiej niz 50 lat temu. Trudno w to uwierzyc patrzac na ten obrazek, prawda?

It turns out that not all cities get ugly as a result of progress, and Santa Cruz de la Sierra is a great example of such. Of course, the city’s full of old architecture, which decays in the eyes and is in danger of collapsing, as well as new architectural monsters, which are unlikely to stand the test of time, because they already have fungus growing on their modern facades. But one thing is certain – Santa Cruz looks a lot better than 50 years ago.

A jednak. Powodem przemiany na lepsze sa… asfaltowe ulice i chodniki. Oczywiscie, w czasie deszczu zamieniaja sie one w rwace potoki, ale jak tylko wyjdzie slonce – schna w okamngnieniu, dzieki czemu czlowiek nie grzeznie po kolana w blocie i Bog wie czym jeszcze, tak jak jeszcze kilkadziesiat lat temu. Co prawda, dziurawe i nierowne chodniki nie zachecaja do spacerow z wozkiem, ale i tak lepsze to niz nic  bloto.

And there is one reason only – the asphalt streets and sidewalks. Of course, when it rains they turn into torrents, but as soon as the sun comes up – they dry in the blink of an eye, so people don’t sink knee-deep in mud and God knows what else, like several decades ago. Although, holy and crooked pavements don’t encourage to take a walk with a stroller, that’s still better than nothing mud.

Wczoraj, z okazji zakonczenia szczytu panstw G77 i Chin, stara czesc miasta – casco viejo – zostala zamnieta dla samochodow. Dzieki temu, spacer w przyjemnie ogrzewajacych promieniach zachodzacego slonca, obfitowal w zdjecia centrum Santa Cruz, ktore wydawalo sie wrecz pieknym, bez tych wszystkich szalonych taksowek, buczacych motorow i smrodzacych autobusow. Zreszta, zobaczcie sami!

Yesterday, at the end of Summit G77 and China, the old part of the city – Casco Viejo – was closed for cars. Thanks to this, a walk in the pleasant warming sun through abounded center of Santa Cruz, was delightful. And I could take as many pictures as I wanted without worrying of being hit by the crazy taxi, motorbike or bus. See for yourself how beautiful is Santa Cruz – today:)
