I mentioned in a previous post, that Santa Cruz doesn’t celebrate the Bolivian flag (even the three-color one) – and how was I surprised after returning from a long weekend in Cochabamba! The whole city was festooned with red – yellow – green flags and cars decorated with ribbons. Bah! The biggest city – the biggest flag! The largest was waving on the Cainco Towers – the business center of the city.

No ale w koncu dzis Boliwia obchodzi ‘Dzien Flagi’!**

I will not say Cruceños haven’t tried, but they also exaggerated a bit – unfortunately I didn’t document this on photographs but one of the biggest supermarkets, had on its roof about 20 fluttering flags and some more on the walls :)

But in the end, today Bolivia celebrates ‘Day of the Flag’!**

Szybko to sobie wygooglowalam, i Wszechwiedzaca Wikipedia to potwierdza. I pomyslec, ze rodowici Boliwijczycy przekonywali mnie, ze to dzis;) Dzieki Michal!

* As shown by the latest census (in which I’ve also participated) La Paz has the largest population in the country . But as befits the Cruceños, they protested results of census, demanding their verification. Why is this so important? They say, that in this way Evo Morales (enemy number one of Cruceños) wants to manipulate the results of future elections. How will the conflict on the line La Paz – Santa Cruz be resolved, time will tell, and I will report about it personally on this blog :)

** One of the readers mentioned on Facebook that Dia de la Bandera is celebrated on 17 August! I googled it quickly and omniscient Wikipedia confirmed that fact. Gosh, it’s amazing that native Bolivians had convinced me that it was today;) Thanks Michal!

In a meantime, here are some pictures of ‘Independence Day’ celebrations in Cochabamba:
