Ostatnio natknelam się na bardzo ciekawa wystawe ‘Op Art – el juego de la ilusion”, zorganizowana przez centrum sztuki wspolczesnej w Santa Cruz (“Centro de la Cultura Pluronacional Santa Cruz”). Wystawa prezentujaca dziela artystow boliwijskich oraz miedzynarodowych z kolekcji Muzeum Narodowego, zawiera przykłady abstrakcji geometrycznej i abstrakcyjnego kubizmu z lat 1960 – 1980.
Sztuka op art to kierunek sztuki wizualnej, wykorzystujacy złudzenia optyczne. Innymi słowy, dziela op artu-u wywoluja u widza wrazenie ruchu, migania, wibracji, wzorow i ukrytych obrazow. Sztuka, ktora mozna okreslic jednym slowem – halocynogenna, wyewoluowala miedzy innymi z futuryzmu i kubizmu, a za jej prekursorow uwaza sie Victora Vasarely i Bridget Riley.
Nie jestem za bardzo zaznajomiona z ta gałezia sztuki wspolczesnej, ale musze przyznac, ze bylam pod wrazeniem tego, co zobaczylam na wystawie – roznorodnych i zaskakujacych prac artystow boliwijskich, ktore moglyby z powodzeniem wisiec w słynnych galeriach sztuki, jak i … na mojej scianie ;)

Recently, I stumbled upon a very interesting exhibition: ‘Op Art – el juego de la ilusion’, in the centre of modern art in Santa Cruz (‘Centro de la Cultura Pluronacional Santa Cruz’). The exhibition, presenting the works of Bolivian and international artists from the collection of the National Museum, includes examples of geometric abstraction and abstract cubism developed between 1960-1980.
Op art, also known as optical (visual) art, is a style that makes use of optical illusions. In other words, when the viewer looks at op art works, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration and patterns. Art, which could be defined as – hallucinogenic, evolved from futurism and cubism among others, in the works of Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley.
I am not very acquainted with this branch of modern art, but I must say, I was impressed by what I saw – diverse and unique pieces by Bolivian artists, that could easily be hanging in the world’s famous art galleries and… on my wall;)
The exhibition is open until 1st June in ‘Centro de la Cultura Pluronacional Santa Cruz’, Calle Rene Moreno 369, Santa Cruz de la Sierra (city centre).
