Sunday After Storm *** ‘Posztormowa’ niedziela

Trzesienie (-a) ziemi w Cochabambie, przejazdzka autobusem chustajacym sie nad przepasciami Torotoro, lot samolotem podczas burzy, burza piaskowa czy wczorajsza BURZA TROPIKALNA w Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

In Bolivia, you can’t complain about the lack of excitement. Earthquake(s) in Cochabamba, the bus ride over deep abyss of Torotoro, a flight during a thunderstorm, sand storms or tropical storm in Santa Cruz de la Sierra yesterday. It began quite normally, with single lighting and thunders, breeze and rain – but it ended with a symphony of thunders and with lightning show, blurred by the wall of water falling from the sky, gymnastics of palm trees, torn cables blowing with the wind, black – out, collapsed roof of our building and the rushing stream on the staircase from 12th floor. Fortunately, the family who lives in the penthouse wasn’t hurt, but the woman in deep shock and trauma was taken to hospital.

Most of the inhabitants, alarmed by screaming and crying met in reception, waiting for the fire fighters. After an hour or so we returned to the apartment – luckily we weren’t flooded, like many others. I haven’t fell asleep until early in the morning, when air conditioning started working again.

Today the landscape after a storm could be seen in the glare of the sun – garbage strewn by the wind, uprooted trees, branches everywhere, water in the hallways of the apartment and spoiled food in the refrigerator and freezer. But everything else has returned to normal – you can see that the city and its residents are accustomed to this extreme weather.

To calm our nerves we went for a walk to the fair and got ourselves few trinkets. We also posed to a caricature – extremely accurate one (well, maybe beside from the neck down, in my case :)

What a laughter we had, observing the reactions of onlookers gathered around the artist!

Let's talk! / Porozmawiajmy!
