(Photographing) Bolivian Wedding *** (Fotografujac) Boliwijskie wesele

Moj pierwszy boliwijski slub!

Byla to noc pelna niespodzianek, dramatycznych wiadomosci, wzruszen, radosci i zabawy. Przyczyny niezalezne, to niepojawienie sie notariusza, ktory mial poprowadzic ceremonie.

Mama Panny Mlodej zachecala wszystkich do tanca, co rusz zapraszajac do wspolnych toastow, a mama Pana Mlodego byla niekoronowana krolowa parkietu!

Najwazniejsze jednak, ze Panstwo Mlodzi byli zadowoleni, goscie rowniez, no i ja jestem calkiem z siebie dumna. Zreszta, nie moglo byc inaczej, majac takich modeli!

danutasphotography‘Felicdades’ kochani!

A czym sie rozni boliwijskie wesele od polskiego? Coz, niewiele znalazlam roznic.

W Polsce:)

***

It was my first Bolivian wedding! Well, not exactly mine but rather my friends’ :) I was invited to the wedding as a guest and … a photographer, although I admit, I am not a wedding photographer.

However, capturing this important moment in the life of my friends was for me a real honor and a challenge. (In Bolivia, very often wedding photographers appear at work with mobile printers, charging guests for the photographs, so at the beginning some people were quite reserved towards me.)

It was a night full of surprises, dramatic news, raw emotions, sincere joy and fun. The expression ‘hora boliviana’ (Bolivian time) proved to be ‘real’ again. At the invitation there was  a time 19.30, we showed up at 20.30 to find there only a handful of guests and a groom, while the last guests appeared around 23.00! The ceremony supposed to start at 21.30, but it began with almost an hour’s delay. This was due to an absence of a notary, who was going to conduct the ceremony… Fortunately, there was a lawyer in a family, who gave a (simbolic) blessing to ‘Young Couple’ instead.

And then the fun began! Bride’s mom encouraged everyone to dance, making sure everybodys glasses are full, while the mother of the groom was a queen of the dance floor.

Nevertheless, I think that this was my first and last wedding as a photographer, at least in Bolivia. My equipment and physical condition are not fit for such adventures! I do not remember the last time my fingers ached from holding the camera, my eyes being sore from looking at the viewfinder, and legs hurting from running on the heels;) Not to mention the stress I experienced when my camera was ‘waiting’ for the flash to load, running especially slowly during the ceremony. I tried my best, but I couldn’t be everywhere I wanted…

However, the most important was that the bride and groom were happy and I’m also quite proud of myself. It couldn’t be any different having such models!

‘Felicidades‘ my friends!

And how different is Bolivian wedding from the Polish one? Well, peple dance, drink and eat the same in both countries, although in Santa Cruz, probably because of the climate, the celebration usually starts late in the evening. There aren’t any traditional games at midnight, but after the caremony, guests pin ‘fat’ bolivianos to the the groom’s jacket for good luck. The couple also chooses ‘padrinos’ (godparents), who help to finance the wedding. Some are in charge of buying wedding rings, others get the cake, pay for the party etc.

I think, however, that the habits are different in other parts of the country, like everywhere. They also vary in the city and in the countryside. Besides, every wedding is exceptional!

As for me, I can’t wait to my sister’s wedding next year. In Poland :)
